It was a cool evening. The dusk was onset. The sky, the breeze was very pleasant. The time was 6:15 PM. This is the time when people try to relax and attain salvation thru their various means. It was same with our motley group. We were 50 people of all hues gathered to meditate. Each with their own ulterior objective with a mask of Bhakti.
The stage was arranged as per the rules and protocol, as if rules and protocol only will give you moksha. The revered vinyl photograph of our Guru was garlanded and vermilion applied after a rose water wash. Candles were lighted, Incense sticks were burnt, and the atmosphere was ready. Our Guide cum leader started the meditation. Every one was thinking to get thoughtless awareness. I, as usual, a rebel, started observing how they were doing the meditation to achieve the thoughtless state.
I was distracted by a flying object. We had a flying visitor in the night. It was 2.5 inches and a kid, happily flying below the roof, dodging the high speed ceiling fans like a fish in water. I got worried that it may get killed by the fan blades. My science lesson recollected assured me that the bat navigate by using their years and not their eyes. Thank the almighty who created it with the forethought.
Suddenly I was hit by a superstition. I was shocked because my grand ma came into my thought. She said a bat, an owl are bad omen and they should not enter your residential areas. If they enter you have to vacate the premises for 6 months to nullify the negatives of the poor avian. Now a holy place and gathering, what a bat? My inquisitiveness made me show my neighbour. Soon a chattering led to a commotion. The leader got upset as he was not the first taken into confidence in these grave issues.
A meeting was convened immediately with an agenda the Bat and the actions to be taken. Bhakta after bhakta condemned the bat and gave sermons that some bad and negativity with in our members brought the Bat.
All this time the bat was still blissfully enjoying its flight of meditation. A unanimous decision was taken to shift the holy place to another holy location. Every one cursed the bat widely with nodding heads and menacing gestures. We all felt we lost our salvation due to the bat.
The bat suddenly felt the tension in the holy people. It hovered over all of us. It identified me as the reason for the eye of the meditative storm and asked me what the matter is. I explained.
I could observe the mischievous smile on the Bat’s face. The bat replied friend this is not the first time I am here for your gathering. Every time I concentrate on your Guru, I am sure to get my salvation. I am getting my re-birth and moksha advanced. I am thoughtlessly aware of my self, while you are thoughtfully unaware of yourselves. I do not know whether I am bad. We are all children of God? I am getting realised because of my meditation on your Guru and coupled with your attention. While you are loosing it I am gaining it. Let us leave about who is bad.
